Charity… Farming… Giving… Generosity… With these billboards, one can easily build a profile of Dr. Abdul-Aziz Ibrahim, the Finance and Accounting Director of the National Hospital, Abuja, born on September 13, 1960.

While charity is the act of giving help to those in need who are not related to the giver, generosity, is the habit of giving freely without expecting anything in return, and giving or gift is the transfer of something without the expectation of receiving something in return.

Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World is a 2007 book by former United States PresidentBill Clinton. With an initial print run of 750,000 copies, it debuted at the top of the New York Times Best Seller list in its first week. Unspecified portion of proceeds went to causes mentioned in the book. Clinton ultimately donated $1.00 million of the proceeds to charity.

Abdul-Aziz is the scion of Salihi and Hafsatu Ibrahim of Kano State. His father was a Sharia Court Judge and his family well known as the sanctuary of Islamic scholars. Some are also Sharia court judges in Kano like the patriarch of the family.

This urbane accountant who loves farming, watching, and nurturing the growth of crops left his parents at the age of two to stay with his grandfather, Mallam Ibrahim Muktar, a farmer, and Sharia jurist in Kano city. The grandpa played a key role in nurturing his grandson and helping to give him a good focus in life. His own father was also a farmer. Farming runs in their blood. It’s so because no matter their career they must fall back to farming.

A farmer’s main goal is to produce a good crop and/or healthy animals in order to make a living and to feed the population. Farmers are responsible for all crops and livestock that are needed for humans to survive. Without food, the world will slowly die, and farmers work hard every day to keep plenty of crops and animal products in the market to keep that from happening.

Abdul-Aziz is a chartered accountant and certified auditor with about 30 years cognate work experience. He was appointed on November 18, 2018 as the director of Finance and Accountingat the National Hospital, Abuja. He rose through the ranks to the position through hard work and patience. Abdul-Aziz started his primary school at Rano Primary School and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in  1972. He enrolled into Government Secondary School, Rano, in Kano where he obtained his Senior Secondary School Certificate in 1981.

For him, ‘’growing up was fun, good, and going to school in the 1970s was different from what we are seeing today. I enjoyed trekking to school because at school, we were given milk, biscuit, bread and pocket money to enable us return to school after the holidays.’’

Recalling an incident that made him cry in school, he said, ‘’the principal came to form one, known today as JSS1. He apportioned little fee to some students and gave total free education to others whose fathers were farmers and apportioned one naira which was the highest money then to me. I cried and the principal told me not to cry that my father is a Sharia court judge that will be able to pay the fee. The total fee was five naira. Surprisingly, I was able to pay the fees from what my dad and grandpa gave to me.’’

After his secondary education, he moved to Kano State Institute for Higher Studies, and obtained his National Diploma in Accounting in 1986, and in 1988, he obtained his Higher National Diploma in Accounting from Kano State Polytechnic.
